Cecil and Jim Bob have been caught engaging in gay sex in a police sting at a public restroom in Tyler, Texas. Buffalo United Artists is a self-supporting collective of professional theater artists working constantly to create accessible, professional-quality theater consistent with the great passion we feel for our art. We do not shy away from controversy, nor do we direct our production choices towards mass appeal or popular opinion. We believe one of the greatest endeavors we can pursue is to use our craft to play an active and visible role in the service of our community. We aspire to present theater that entertains, enlightens, and captures the imagination.

The BUA (1992-2009) has produced more than 120 diverse shows in theatres all over the area. They are very proud to have brought some of the most challenging theater to Buffalo, and to be able to claim a number of firsts for our area. Some highlights include: The Boys in the Band , Last Summer at Blue Fish Cove , Ten Percent Revue , The Baltimore Waltz, Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love , Poor Super Man , Jeffrey , and Love! Valour! Compassion! BUA is committed more than ever to uniting the finest performers in the city to bring you a provocative array of plays.

BUA does not produce plays for the goal of making money. They produce theater they feel has a message that needs to be heard in our community. BUA uses theater as a vehicle for social change, outreach, and a means of communicating important aspects of the human experience that Buffalo audience members might not otherwise view and explore. They do so with attention to artistic excellence, an eye on what is current and pertinent in today's world of theater, a passion for achieving and maintaining the highest possible standard of artistry and integrity, while constantly challenging themselves to strive for even greater goals.

BUA is a proud member of The Theater Alliance of Buffalo. They are also recipients of Artie Awards in numerous varied genres. To support BUA (as a Buffalo Angel for $25): Buffalo United Artists P.O. Free Henry!: Summers on Neptune In Buffalo Rising

Free Henry!: Summers on Neptune

Buffalo Rising

By Susan Marie

"Sometimes, everybody's getting in my mind / Oh Lord, I can't break through this time / sometimes, there can be no reason or rhyme / for the things I cannot rewind."

"Smoke," the first tune on Free Henry's! new release, "Summers On Neptune," embodies everything currently void in the music industry. Poetically, artistically, and lyrically, "Smoke" is radio ready. "When you're there you know / you gotta swim towards the waterline / scrape for the waterline / swing on a vine to a canopy / it cannot be these senses around." Press play and listen to "Smoke" when defining perfection.

"Summers on Neptune," produced and arranged by Free Henry!, is an 1o track masterpiece recorded at Introspec Studios. Featuring the finest Visual Art Design of Michael LaDuca, (The Corporate Jesters, Inc), mastering by Audio Magic Studios (Mike Rorick) in Buffalo, NY, and guest saxophonist, Nate Feder. The entire CD is 100% USA made down to the recycled paper and plastic. Photography credits include: Matthew Buckley and Ryan Richards, (Richards also engineered and mixed), causing this entire release to be created by Buffalo based business and artists.

summers on neptune.jpg

Free Henry! Is made up of Bob Buckley: vocals, lyrics, acoustic guitar, piano / Derek Presti: bass guitar, piano / Alex Foote: electric/acoustic guitars, piano and Pat Mannella: drums and percussion. Free Henry! has begun a revolutionary intensity redefining rock and roll, jazz, blues and pop. They take what was, create what needs to be, melding that into their own sound.

"Sailboat Senses" is intuitive and cohesive. "Spirits are so high, and we're walking through the next day / we're searching for a brighter way to get a little bit more sunshine / and all of these good people have an open invitation to this happy conversation." Bob soars with a spectral vocal range while Pat is driven with his military-neo rock percussion. Alex just makes his Fender wail with a groovy wah wah rock pop retro that compliments Derek on his jazzy back beat bass lines that bring them all full circle.

Listen to a live one-hour interview with the band on Think Twice Radio. The 2009 Buffalo Music Awards has nominated Free Henry! for Best Original Rock Band and Alexander Gavin Foote for Best Original Guitarist, vote here. Summers On Neptune", the 2009 release by Free Henry!, is available now available here. And go here for a free mp3 download of "Sailboat Senses". Free Henry is in constant flux.

They have performed with The Guess Who, Rusted Root and most recently in NYC. They are positive, uplifting, raw honest energy and continuously seek new places, cities and musicians to perform with and at. Every tune on "Summers On Neptune" is fantastic. Like every single song on this CD, each member of Free Henry! holds a gift, a surprise, insight and God given talent. Free Henry! may stand side by side, but each of them, like their songs, are complete, a work of art, divine.

Joyce Wilson Nixon: In Flight (NY)

Joyce Wilson Nixon has come into her own with the release of her first CD, "In Flight." Recorded through Pharaoh Productions, Joyce's vocals soar on this compilation ranging from classic R&B, Blues, Funk, Rock and R&B crossover into pop.

"Come Fly" begins with smooth vocals and keys leading to, "Come fly with me / come to my arms / let me take you there / tonight . . ." This is recognition of self through another. Joyce displays wide vocal range alternating between throated melody to choir. The harmonies are angelic, with a repeated theme of: "Let me take you there." This is a mix of jazz, blues, pop and contemporary, meditative in nature.

"Envy" is back beat funk rock with strong musical roots. Joyce belts out "I was born with a twinkle in my eye / I always knew I was going to touch the sky / Nothing ventured and nothing gained / My confidence is my claim to fame." This tune IS Joyce Wilson Nixon. The lyrics correspond to her appearance and performance, as well as her confidence in herself as a performer and person.

Besides being one of Western New York's top notch entertainers, Joyce is also the CEO of NICYO (National Inner City Youth Opportunities), and a model and spokesperson for Ralph Lauren, Inc. Joyce has implemented strategic funding opportunities through the State of New York, with the aid of her staff, for programs such as: The Randy Smith, Jeff Nixon and Ted Washington Basketball Leagues, The Buffalo Wings Track Program, and The Crusaders Marching Units.

Joyce Wilson Nixon performs Internationally with award winning Taylor Made Jazz for the USO, as well as her own band, The Joyce Wilson Nixon Band (JWN), and consistently donates her time at local, national and global events such as: The Rick James Annual Memorial Concert, The Historic Colored Musicians Club, The M&T Plaza Concert Series, The Queen City Jazz Festival, Students Against Violence, Buffalo Bills Alumni Fundraising, The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and Artists United For Human Rights.

In addition to her numerous and ongoing accomplishments, the only way to experience Joyce Wilson Nixon is through live performance. Joyce has the innate ability to pick the crowd up, bring them into her embrace, touch every single spirit, completely energize and reverse the mood in a single second and put a show on like no other entertainer I have witnessed.

Joyce Wilson Nixon is In Flight and this CD is just a portion of the talented, devoted business entrepreneur and woman. "In Flight" can be purchased at Cd Baby or through Joyce HERE.

Joyce Wilson Nixon is ready to take off again so grab this CD now. Live performance is a must, you will never forget it. Joyce (including members of her band, JWN) have just been nominated for Best Blues Female Vocalist and Best New Band for The Buffalo Music Awards Nov 2009.

Crowds gather when Joyce sings along with the expansive seasoned musicians behind her. She is a gift to the music industry, Western New York and the world through her devotion to helping others and initiating music to entertain, uplift and produce positivity in a world that is in desperate need of change.

The Power of Giving: St. Adalbert's & Outer Limits Recording

Ken Rutkowski, Owner of Outer Limit Recording Studio has donated 64 full thanksgiving meals for shut-in families of Buffalo's community in conjunction with The Response To Love Center and Sister Johnice on behalf of an annual giving tradition he started 7 years ago that he calls the “Thanksgiving Giving.” He started with one meal. He donated one turkey, stuffing, a gallon of milk, a carton of orange juice, a box of potatoes, yams, coffee, tea, pies, whipped topping, carrots, corn, and rolls with butter. This year Ken will deliver more than 128 full meals on Thanksgiving to in support of the program, “Response to Love.”

In 1985, the The Response to Love Center was founded to begin a ministry to the East Side of Buffalo. Sr. Mary Johnice, CSSF, a core of Felician Sisters and countless volunteers transformed the first and second floors of a former parish school building into a compassionate haven for the poor. The Center is dedicated to helping poverty-stricken individuals and families. We empower people to take responsibility for their lives and encourage self-sufficiency through dignity and compassion. We develop relationships with individuals and introduce them to people and programs that will assist with their individual problems and needs.

The compassion of Ken Rutkowski helps whole families would not have the means to celebrate Thanksgiving, but moreover his compassion overwhelms and inspires many others to experience the powerful feeling, meaning and great value of true giving. Tops Markets have been cooperative with this tradition for 6 of the 7 years. Corrin Matthews and Rutkowski family members have joined him for the second time this year. Rich Products, Starbucks, Wegman's, Fresh Salon, Print Tek, “Greatest American Dog Host” Jarod Miller, Attorney Kelly Zarcone, Rick Smith of Kick Some Pigs Music, Dick Murray School of Dance, The Path, Rick Matthews, Al Hury and a number of Outer Limit Recording Studio clients and friends have joined in for the first time this year.

Ken Rutkowski started out with just one full meal 7 years ago. He doubles the donation every year and will continue to do so infinitely. Outer Limit Recording studio is a small business operated by just 2 people. So the purpose of this annual “Thanksgiving GIVING” is all about THE POWER of giving, especially when you don’t have much to give. It has become a moving experience for so many people who depend on it now for nourishment, holiday spirit, and faith in the kindness of others, ability to not have to turn anyone away and most of all for those who seek a sense of goodwill. You get when you give… and Ken hopes to have that this become contagious for all of us in Buffalo, NY.

Contact Ken to donate, assist, and corporate sponsorship/press: Ken Rutkowski, Outer Limits Recording Studio and My Space or by phone: 716-886-0554.

Even one dollar will help this campaign against hunger at Thanksgiving.

Local Artists Support Human Rights

Buffalo, NY) - On Oct 4, 2009 Musicians and Artists gathered to support human rights in Buffalo, New York during Violence Awareness month. This event was in direct support of two organizations that deal with violence on separate levels: Prevent Child Abuse NY( including the Erie County Task Force On Child Abuse & Neglect Erie County) and Maiti Nepal (including the U.S. Affiliation, Friends of Maiti Nepal.)

12n - 7pm Sunday, this non stop music and art festival (originally slated at the Buffalo & Erie County Naval Park aboard the USS Little Rock) was rescheduled by event coordinator, Susan Marie due to inclement weather. Natalie DeSilva, director of catering at 76 Pearl Street, donated 3 floors of the venue to "Artists United For Human Rights."

Prevent Child Abuse NY is a growing movement to prevent child abuse before it occurs. The Citizens Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect is a grassroots child abuse prevention coalition in Erie County. "Buffalo Musicians and artists are proving to be strong advocates for children.", said Christine Deyss, executive director of Prevent Child Abuse NY. "With our colleagues from the Citizens Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, we are tremendously excited and grateful for their coming together to help prevent child abuse and victimization." The Citizens Task Force seeks to provide a unified voice for children, "Because the voice of the community is louder than the voice of a child."

Maiti Nepal is a social organization that works to find justice for victimized girls and women by engaging in criminal investigation and waging legal battles against criminals. It has highlighted the sexual trafficking issue with its strong advocacy from the local, national to international levels. Ms. Anuradha Koirala, founder and director of Maiti Nepal added, "They [women and children] are working to help their sisters and they know the horror of the victims. Society rejects me and my girls, but they are the most important thing in my life."

Susan Marie, event coordinator of "Artists United For Human Rights" is pleased and grateful for the tremendous support from the Buffalo, WNY and Erie County communities. "Noa Bursie (Buffalo musician) and myself formulated this event in late June 2009 after viewing a PBS documentary, The Day My God Died", by Andrew Levine. It propelled us to wish to do something to aid the sexual trafficking and abuse issues highlighted in the film." An outpouring of support from Buffalo and WNY musicians and artists fell into place immediately, as well as support form local business and organizations. "I literally had to turn down musicians because the slots filled that quickly. Local and National artisans were joyed to donate 20% of their sales from the event to both organizations while all the musicians agreed to perform for free.", said Marie. "On Oct 4, when I entered Pearl Street Grill, I was humbled by the dedication and support of our community."

Susan continues, "Considering the sudden onset of extreme rain, wind and cold, the away Buffalo Bills game and the venue change within a day, the event was a huge success. The most important thing to me was to bring awareness to human rights focusing on sex abuse issues that are rarely recognized or spoken of. All parties involved have gone not only local, but national and international as far as recognition by the United Nations in Geneva. The monies are still coming in, but the support came directly from the WNY community. It is integral that our sponsors, musicians and artists gain recognition. If not for their support, this event would never have come to fruition."

Musicians who donated their time: Noa Bursie, Emile Latimer, Lance Diamond, The BloodThirsty Vegans, Joni Russ, Van Taylor Project, Gruvology, Ron Walker & The Exoutics, Rob Falgiano, Derek McKeith, Mandrill, Joyce Wilson Nixon, Free Henry!, Buffalo Select Chorus, Lenny Revell, and Sons of the King.

Artists who donated: Bass Reeves, Tara Nova, Memorable Creations, Artfully Aware, Nomad Magazine, Poet Tree Magazine, Eco-Scents, MB Originals, MB Originals, Allen Street Connection, Heritage Press, Cultural Niagara, Max Gabriel (Nami-NYS) and Egg Art.

Organizations/Volunteers: Youth for Human Rights International, National Center for Domestic Violence, Sisters of Mercy, International Justice Mission, NAMI-NYS, Citizens Task Force on Child Abuse & Neglect Erie County, Habitat for Humanity, AmeriCorps Vista, Free Henry! street team, World March for Peace & Non-Violence, Serve.Gov, Million Voices Campaign and Euphraxia Dance.

Event sponsors/silent auction: Buffalo & Erie County Naval Park, Pearl Street Grill, Think Twice Radio, Van Taylor Production, Nomad Magazine, Poet Tree Magazine, Teresa Reile, Electric Life/DIOS Music, Laverne Edmond Enterprises, Rose Salley Photography, Righteous Babe Records, Einat Aigmon Jewelry, Lonnie B's Beads, ee Photography, Olmstead Parks (ParkSide Lodge), Salvatore's Italian Gardens, Ilio DiPaolo's, Blackthorn Restaurant, Tops Markets, Kaleidoscope Theatre, Jewish Repertory Theatre, Road Less Traveled Productions, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tara Nova, Eco-Scents, Memorable Creations, The Metal Shop, MP2 Design, Regal Tip DrumSticks, Outer Limits Recording Studio, Syracuse Cultural Workers, Bass Reeves, Stylin Tattoo, Bishop Perry Davis, Z Pilatez, Rand & Jones, Crown Collision, Ron Daniels (President Local AFM # 92), Tara Gift Shop, UB Center for the Arts, Cultural Niagara, Buffalo Heritage Unlimited, Three2Go Music, Hyatt's, and over 40 musicians that donated their own CDS for a silent auction.

Media Sponsors: WBFO, WBNY, WBLK, WUFO, 97 Rock, 103.3 The Edge, WKBW AM Buffalo, Channel 7 News, Nightlife, YNN Time Warner, Buffalo Rising, Arts Council Erie County, Susan Marie Public Relations, Think Twice Radio, as well as numerous National and International networks.

"I need to search for a new definition of "humble.", says Marie. People have asked me when are we going to do this again?" This shows the heart of this community and that people do indeed wish to be a part of positive global change. I applied for approximately 30 corporate grants that were denied over 3-4 months. It is through the musicians, artists, local business and community of Buffalo, WNY and Erie County listed above that the organizations in need are able to be supported at all. When considering everyone involved did this for free, that gift alone is worth more than anything material."
